Hippo the seahorse and the corals. Plastic Nature Series XII
Year:
A Barbour seahorse—recognizable by its striped snout—transforms into a floating metallic creature, suspended among deep-sea corals.
The painting concentrates all the chromatic intensity on the main figure, contrasting it with a realistic seabed rendered in bluish tones. I wanted to pour all the vibrant energy of the ocean into this work: saturated colors, exaggerated forms, that contrast between the real and the impossible that makes the seahorse radiate its own life.
It is an invitation to feel that magical connection with nature, but also a reflection. The piece is part of "Plastic Nature," my series that explores how plastic has invaded our ecosystems, transforming the organic into something artificial, shiny, and permanent.
A tribute to the mystery of the oceans and a question about what we are leaving behind in them.
