About
El Espacio Permanente

Online contemporary art gallery in Madrid specializing in original works and limited-edition fine art prints.

Sofía Cristina Jiménez: about me

I am Sofía Cristina Jiménez, a visual artist from Madrid. My work explores the boundaries between the tangible and the imagined, fusing surrealism, botanical illustration, and visual poetry into a unique language that I have developed over more than thirteen years of creative experience. Before dedicating myself fully to art, I worked for over a decade as a Leather Goods and Accessories Manager for international luxury companies such as Loewe and Delpozo. That experience taught me the value of quality materials, the importance of detail, and a commitment to excellence—values I apply today in every work I create for El Espacio Permanente.

Sofía Cristina Jiménez, visual artist and founder of El Espacio Permanente

My work has been recognized at international fairs such as JustMad (Madrid), Art Madrid, and Art3F (Paris). My works are part of permanent collections at the Museo Cromática in Toledo and Royal Caribbean International, and have been exhibited in spaces such as the Museo Zabaleta, Casa de Vacas (Madrid), and Dcontemporary Gallery (London). My recognitions include second prize at the Sanya Tropical City International Art Competition in China (2025) and first prize in Spanish poetry from the IE Foundation (2021). Each work I create is the result of a thoughtful process where technique, emotion, and visual narrative converge. At El Espacio Permanente, you won't find works by other artists: everything you see is my creation, directly from my studio in Madrid.

Sofía Cristina Jiménez's art studio in Madrid

El Espacio Permanente is the studio and online gallery of Sofía Cristina Jiménez, a Madrid-based artist specializing in surrealism, illustration, and visual poetry. From my studio in Madrid, I create and distribute original works on canvas and signed limited-edition prints that engage with the dreamlike, the figurative, and the emotional. Each piece is an invitation to escape: in my works, both on canvas and fine art paper, I condense abstract emotions and unexpected contrasts. I work with museum-quality materials, such as Hahnemühle paper and long-lasting pigmented inks, to ensure that each print maintains its quality for decades. My offering is distinguished by three fundamental pillars: Limited and numbered editions: Each print is hand-signed by me and is part of limited series of between 20 and 50 copies, with a certificate of authenticity included. Commitment to quality: I exclusively use giclée printing on heavy-weight fine art papers (300-350 g/m²), guaranteeing reproductions faithful to the original work.

Accessible art without sacrificing exclusivity: I offer museum-quality contemporary artwork at affordable prices, democratizing access to original art.

El Espacio Permanente is not just an online store: it's my artistic project to connect with collectors, contemporary art lovers, and people looking for unique pieces for their spaces. My studio is located in Madrid, in the heart of the Community of Madrid. Although the studio is not open to the public, the online gallery allows collectors from all over Spain and Europe to access my complete catalog 24/7. Each purchase includes a certificate of authenticity: you work directly with me, without intermediaries, which guarantees that each work is authentic and personally certified. I offer insured shipping throughout Spain and Europe. If you're looking to buy original contemporary art in Madrid, surrealist illustrations, or visual poetry online in Spain, El Espacio Permanente is your trusted gallery: I combine the accessibility of an online store with the guarantee of buying directly from the artist.

Original artwork on canvas: contemporary art series

My original canvas works are unique pieces made with acrylic on Belgian linen. They are organized into thematic series that fuse surrealism, botanical art, and environmental reflection:

  • Ascendants and Descendants : Animal portraits with an aristocratic aura inspired by the solemnity of classical painting. Each creature exhibits a unique personality against vibrant backgrounds.

  • Plastic Nature : animals transformed into helium balloons question the substitution of the natural for the artificial. A visual statement about plastic pollution and the fragility of our ecosystems.

  • Jellychutes : Toy soldiers descend with jellyfish as parachutes in this surreal series showcased on JustMad that combines pop aesthetics with ecological awareness about ocean pollution.

  • Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner : Inspired by Dirty Dancing, this series explores freedom in the face of limits. Each animal inhabits an imaginary corner where light and shadow create the paradox of being trapped and free simultaneously.

  • AIR : Impossible creatures soar through invented skies in large-format compositions that celebrate imagination, lightness, and inner worlds. Visual poetry somewhere between pop and surreal.

All works are hand-painted, signed, and certified, with finished edges that allow them to be hung without a frame. Available in the online gallery.

Work on paper and limited edition prints

In parallel to my canvas work, I develop works on paper using watercolor, graphite, and India ink techniques. These original pieces are the basis for my limited-edition prints, which I transform into fine art reproductions using giclée printing on certified paper.

One of the hallmarks of my work on paper is the exploration of botanical art from a surrealist perspective. Plant elements, organic forms, and references to nature merge with dreamlike and poetic compositions, creating pieces that engage with both classic botanical illustration and the most experimental currents of contemporary art.

In many of these works, I integrate visual poetry: a hybrid language where image and word converge to create meaning. Poetic fragments, expressive typography, or literary references enrich the visual narrative, inviting the viewer to interpret it both aesthetically and conceptually.

Each print is hand-signed and numbered, and is part of limited editions of between 20 and 50 copies. This allows collectors with different budgets to access my artistic universe with the guarantee of acquiring a museum-quality piece.

Materials and creation process

At El Espacio Permanente, each print is a small work of art in itself. I work exclusively with long-lasting materials certified for museum preservation: Museum-quality giclée printing: I use printing technology with pigmented inks that guarantee color stability for over 100 years under proper conditions. This standard is the same one used by international museums to reproduce works from their collections.

Certified fine art papers: I work with Hahnemühle Photo Rag (308 g/m²), Canson Infinity Baryta (310 g/m²), and other acid-free, conservation-certified media. These papers are made from 100% cotton and meet ISO 9706 standards for long-lasting archival materials.

Hand-signed and numbered: I hand-sign each print, include the edition number (example: 15/50), and issue a personalized certificate of authenticity that guarantees the work's provenance and quality.

All of my original canvas works are executed with oil, acrylic, ink, or mixed media on professionally primed linen supports, ensuring durability and resistance to the test of time. Each canvas is mounted on a premium wooden frame. If you're looking for a place to buy quality artwork in Madrid, these professional materials are the foundation of my commitment to responsible collecting and long-term preservation. By purchasing directly from the artist, you can rest assured knowing the origin and process of each work.
